What's It About?
IT'S QUIZ TIME is billed as the world's biggest party quiz game for consoles and PCs. Hosted by Salli, a witty (and sometimes snarky) female AI (artificial intelligence) host, gamers are treated to more than 25,000 different questions and answers in thousands of different categories -- from geography and history to health and sports to pop culture references, including TV shows, video games, music, and more. The game can be played in single-player mode or as a multiplayer match with up to eight players who can use their smartphones as controllers (via Wi-Fi or cellular), and played locally or over the internet. With a unique twist on this genre, the Live Show mode allows players to stream their game on Twitch, YouTube, or Mixer -- and compete against up to 10,000 viewers guessing the answer at the same time, using chat.
Is It Any Good?
This trivia game is both entertaining and engaging, allowing players to essentially tailor their experience to suit their game show needs. Along with (mostly) good questions, covering a wide range of topics,It's Quiz Timepersonalizes its content to each individual player. So, depending on your age and interests, the game adapts the questions and topics players receive. Plus, you can create your own "playlists," with custom questions and answers, giving you tools to create something unique for both collaborative or competitive play. Salli, the robotic host, is great, though perhaps not as entertaining as the cheeky host of theYou Don't Know Jackseries (or Buzz from theBuzz!games).
Using your mobile phone is intuitive for most people, plus the unique option to broadcast your game (on Twitch, YouTube, or Mixer) in the Live Show mode is fun and fresh, as you compete with up to 10,000 viewers. Some of the questions are duds, though, such as those focusing on TV shows from more than 10 years ago, and there are some inaccurate questions (Smiteis a popular first-person shooter?). There's also some repetition -- which isn't something you'd expect with so many questions. But overall, this game should make trivia fans happy for its many unique features, accessible play, and good production values.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Parents can talk about the difference between free-to-play games versus paid games. With many free online (and live) trivia games, will people want to pay for trivia games like this? Are kids bombarded with advertisements for these pay-for-play games, even though there are many free alternatives?
If trivia is called such because it's "trivial" knowledge, why does it seem to be so popular and important to know so much of it?
