The game references many classic book characters and stories. It helps players to develop storytelling skills, using basic pieces to convey sometimes complex tales. It encourages creativity, as well as problem solving skills.

The point of the game is to come up with creative ways to tell a story that fulfills the title of each page. Sometimes, these goals are cute, romantic, and heroic, while others involve darker subjects like death, deception, and villainy.

Because players are in control of the flow of each story, they are also in control of how the various characters are portrayed. Depending on how the solutions flow, a character could fall anywhere on the moral spectrum at any given time.

On the one hand, players can use set pieces and characters to represent love in many forms. On the other hand, there's very little in the way of ethnic diversity in the game,

Players are given a lot of leeway when figuring out the solutions to each story. There are no time limits, and each piece of every panel (or even entire panels) can be reset or moved around at will. This difficulty comes as game progresses and the titles get more complex. Some stories also have optional story goals, requiring extra thought and creativity.

Some stories have players setting up scenes of murders, executions, and other violent events. There's occasionally some blood shown onscreen, as well as corpses, monsters, etc. Even so, the cartoonish art style helps to keep the violence less graphic and the scares more manageable.

Some story challenges feature themes such as infidelity, attraction, and other sexually tinged themes. Some characters, such as Adam and Eve, are shown nude, with strategically placed fig leaves and hair placement.
