Runaway Bride

This movie was amazing! It has a great plot and the actors are incredible. It does contain some mature content though, the father of the main character, Maggie Carpenter, has a drinking problem, and there is some cursing. I think that the plot would be a little confusing for younger kids, but older kids will definitely enjoy it!!

Maggie Carpenter has been married three times - well, almost. Before she can say "I do," she bolts down the aisle, leaving the groom at the altar and in the dust. In her most recent wedding, she bolted on horseback. Her exploits have caught the attention of cynical reporter Ike Graham, who's determined to find the truth and reclaim dignity after his sensationalized story about her gets him fired. Maggie and Ike are both realistic, flawed people who learn valuable lessons during their romantic journey. Maggie admits she ran from grooms because they didn't know who she really was, and that she accepted proposals to fill a void. Ike, for his part, learns that real love can exist. He also learns to open up to and trust those around him, and becomes much friendlier toward the citizens of Maggie's idyllic Maryland hometown. Both characters are challenged to slow down and help a real relationship grow. Maggie's father regularly drinks, said to be the result of his wife's death. Drinking and sober, he constantly makes fun of his daughter, trivializing her pain. Many townspeople do the same, even at a public party in honor of Maggie and prospective groom number four. Sexual jokes are made, though Maggie and Ike don't consummate their relationship. Ike is appropriately disciplined for lying about Maggie in a national newspaper, but his general attitude about this and some of his other remarks may be jarring. In general, this is a good introduction to romantic comedy for those kids graduating to PG-13 viewing.
