崩溃:我怎么恨你?

我一直在阻碍现在咆哮了一个星期,但是看到“崩溃”认证的新鲜电影网站烂番茄已经把我推到了崩溃的边缘。显然其他活着的人除了我和我看过电影的朋友认为“崩溃”是滑稽的,美好的和突破性的。我觉得难过的时候,不绘制,只有间歇性地有趣。我几乎觉得好像进入了另一个宇宙中我看一个糟糕的版本的电影,应该是太棒了。无论如何,这是一个点名我的理由拒绝。让我们开始与评论。《纽约时报》称赞“崩溃”,作家和明星艾米shum“海侵”,赞扬这部电影的女主角“拥有她的性取向”的大胆颠覆性别规范,一个女人无情的麻木不仁和她周围的人关心和希望的承诺和一夫一妻制。我不应该阅读评论。他们建立了希望我将会看到一个新的“布里奇特·琼斯的日记”或“四个婚礼和一个葬礼》,“每一个有趣的和适度违法的在他们自己的方式。艾米shum的性格(叫艾米,哇)“崩溃”喝酒和抽烟锅过剩,和任何人做爱与他会带她回家,但是不会记得她睡在早晨和她在哪里。 This is not transgressive, friends. This is not “owning your sexuality.” It’s stupid, unsafe and depressing, and it’s not even amusing. Callous, joyless, commitment-free humping is no funnier when a woman does it than when a man does, and Shumer --although she gets in some funny lines-- does nothing to make a case to the contrary. Worse, there is very little sign that “Amy” enjoys the sex she’s having. Most of the time she’s complaining about it or clearly underwhelmed by it. Even when she hooks up with the man who becomes her love interest, she spends the post-coital afterglow carping at the man about his breathing and her aversion to spooning. Ha, ha, ha. A pathological inability to be truly intimate. Hilarious. Shumer is appealing and sometimes very funny, with the blond, squinty-eyed charm Renee Zellweger brought to “Bridget Jones.” One of the highlights of this lamentable film is that Amy never doubts that men want to sleep with her or worries about her attractiveness. Her neuroses involve a desire to avoid the closeness that commitment and monogamy have a tendency to engender. “Monogamy is for suckers,” as her dad says at the beginning of the movie. Of course in “Trainwreck’s” present, that formally swinging dad is afflicted with MS and chained to a wheelchair, suggesting that he (and anyone pursuing that path) will pay for their aberrations via cosmic retribution. (A suggestion, by the way that is horrifying in its insensitivity on so many levels.) The movie presents us with a character who abuses drugs and alcohol, sleeps around, has no real friends, and is intermittently hostile to her “normal” sister, the sister’s odd but rather dear stepson and bumbling husband. O.K. Fine. I may not buy that as entertaining, but it’s a formula that worked in “Absolutely Fabulous.” The problem is that, once it has given us this model, “Trainwreck” then proceeds to prove it was all a sham. Amy isn’t really like this. She was just waiting for the right man to come along, her outrageously irascible father (now HE’S funny) to perish, various other vicissitudes to occur, and a dance sequence to unfold for true love to triumph. “Ab Fab” was successful for those who liked it because Edina and Patsy were always and everywhere horrible, and nothing on earth could redeem them from the selfish, horrid harridans they were. What is most troubling is how the movie attempts to recast Amy as sympathetic, likeable and “worthy” of entering into a traditional heterosexual romantic coupling with --here’s some transgression for you-- a young, caring, wealthy doctor. It does so by debasing her work and her sexuality. In the film’s comic and narrative nadir, when she and the doctor break up, a drunk and high Amy goes home with a co-worker who turns out to be under-age. The episode ends in humiliation and disaster for Amy. Proving what? That her fun and fancy-free life of drug-addled boffing is an empty, dangerous exercise in futility? That the audience permitted itself to be misled into thinking this was a movie that celebrated a woman’s right to be just as carefree and single as a man a la Samantha Jones in “Sex and the City”? Search me. Having proven Amy is an unethical, damaged person and made its comic bed with her, the movie refuses to lie in it. I might not have liked “Trainwreck” if it had stayed with the original premise, but I would have . . . ahem . . . respected it in the morning. The bait and switch destroyed that possibility, but apparently just for me. Oh well. LeBron James was funny. Sigh.
