What's the Story?
JESSY & NESSY is a preschool series about a curious little girl and her best friend, who happens to be an ancient sea creature. Jessy (Sophie Feldman) is able to look at the world differently from most people thanks to her "inspectacles," magical glasses that let her see things that others don't. When Jessy wears them, she can see her friend Nessy (Jamie Buchanan), a five-and-a-half-thousand-year-old purple sea monster. She can also see lots of other folks, like Mr. Balloon (David Keegan), Dollop (Shai Matheson), and Squimpy (Naomi McDonald). Together, the pair satisfy their curiosity about things by exploring their surroundings, asking lots of questions, and solving problems that arise during the process.
Is It Any Good?
The colorful and engaging series uses mixed media to create a magical world in which Jessy and the Scottish-accented Nessy actively set out to learn new things. It reinforcescharacter strengths and life skills-- such as remaining curious and being able to work in teams -- in a way that is simple and upbeat enough for young children to understand. From wondering why the wind blows to wanting to know how airplanes stay in the sky, the duo observes, explores, and asks questions to find the answers they are looking for. Adding to the fun are the objects and creatures they interact with, and Jessy's singing and ukulele playing skills. Overall,Jessy & Nessyis energetic and creative and will keep young kids entertained and exposed to an array of important character strengths.
